Jake Owen: My Nashville

The Alley Pub

Jake: “I’ve always loved going to the Alley Pub. You know it’s off this back alley, it’s kind of inconspicuous. These local firefighters here in town wanted a side job and they started this little bar. I can literally walk to it from my little town house I used to have. I’d go down there on Friday nights, get my guitar out… It felt like, I’m home in Nashville but I’m so far outside of town that you could kind of get away with letting your hair down a bit. And they’ve got one of the greatest cheeseburgers in town. Plus it’s really cool that the firefighters own it!”

Gruhn Guitars

Jake: “Gruhn is a really nice vintage guitar shop in Nashville. I have a guy there that I work with a lot, his name is Glenn. He’s always been really good to me. He calls me up if there’s something cool that came in I gotta check out, ‘cuz he knows the kind of stuff I’m into. It’s obviously awesome to have a guy like that. I have a really cool late 1940s Gibson guitar that’s got a lot of character to it. I happened to go there one day to pick up another guitar and that one was sitting next to him. He said man, you might wanna check this one out, and I did and I ended up buying it. It’s my favorite guitar I’ve ever had, I take it everywhere with me. He was responsible for helping me get that one!”

Grimey’s New & Preloved Music

Jake: “I’m really into collecting cool music and records. There’s a cool local record shop over off of 8th called Grimey’s, a really cool record shop where I’ve picked up a lot of stuff.”

The Hidden Harbor Marina

Jake: “Every July Fourth we go out to Center Hill Lake and rent houseboats from Hidden Harbor Marina. My dad beat cancer last year, and to think he’s the guy that introduced me to boating as a kid, and all these years later I’ve worked hard enough, become successful enough to own my own boat and have a family of my own… My dad came up with my mom and it was just really special to be able to spend that time with my dad and take him on a little vacation away from everything he’d been dealing with, and have him be around my daughter, and be on the water. He instilled in me as a kid the love of boating, and how much it provides such a relaxation in your life. So hopefully I was able to do the same thing for him after everything he’d gone through.”

TNT Watersports

Jake: “They’re out by the lake and it’s a family owned business. Two brothers, Andrew and Luke, own the boat store. For years since I could afford my first boat, when I bought it from them, they’ve just taken such good care of me. And it’s not just me… You know how boats are finicky. So on Saturday if somebody’s boat’s not working on the lake, and you’ve waited all week long to be with your family, they’re the guys that will show up on the lake when it’s their day off as well and help you fix your boat so you can have a good weekend with your family. I admire that about businesses like that.”

Unique Automotive

Jake: “My buddy Brad owns Unique Auto. I’ve got a couple trucks and the Range Rover that he’s done for me, but my favorite is a 1989 Jeep Wagoneer, totally restored. I had him paint it the same color that back in Florida, as a kid, a buddy of mine had his Jeep. It’s called Beach Wagon Blue. It’s kind of like this surf mobile and it’s just awesome. He did a great job restoring it.”

“It’s great when you can rely on somebody like that to take one of your vehicles that you have a lot of passion and love for and make it even better. I trust their instinct and leave it up to them… I know the kinds of things I want done but it’s nice to have them facilitate the things they think need to be done as well. It’s funny because I have a lot of cars that are really nice, but that one I always get the thumbs up at the stop lights! People are very complimentary of it because it’s so beautiful.”
