Jennie Garth: My Los Angeles

Jennie Garth has been representing Los Angeles for more than half her life. Playing high school princess Kelly Taylor on TV megahit ‘Beverly Hills 90210,’ she personified the SoCal-cool lifestyle for a decade. She may have been acting – but she wasn’t pretending. She came here as a teenager, and hasn’t left since. That famous zip code? It’s now “an outing” for this longtime San Fernando Valley girl.

These days Garth is passionate about home renovation and DIY projects. If you want things to look high-end but don’t want to pay for it, ask Jennie where to go. “I just don’t think that luxury needs to cost that much money.” And she likes to dig around in unconventional places looking for that perfect piece. “Usually it’s from small stores that nobody knows about, or from artists or trades. There are so many creative, amazing people and artisans in this town.”

From rock ‘n roll hardware stores, to the contractor who can make magic happen, these are Jennie’s secret home improvement weapons.

North Hollywood Hardware

Jennie: I use this place down the street called Studio City Hardware. There’s always loud, bad rock ‘n roll music going on in there, and the guys are all tattooed up, and it’s super chill and cool. They love where they work and they help you with anything you need. I don’t think you’re allowed to work there unless you give off that “I don’t give a sh**” vibe — but they actually do give one.

Potted

Jennie: Potted is a great little spot in Los Feliz. It’s this fountain oasis kind of place.

Bamboo

Jennie: I’ve been going to the same Chinese restaurant in the valley since I was 17 years old. And I met the owner, Joseph, in the grocery store in the produce department and we are friends now. I call them and I don’t even have to order. They know what my family likes and they send it over. It’s because he’s a friend of mine now and I love that. The crazy thing is, this town is really fickle on restaurants, but his business has thrived from the minute he opened it.

Cambas Design

Jennie: Kasandra Cambas. She’s got a plethora of all these local valley resources. She helped me designed my kids’ room and brought in the different tradesmen that created these amazing kids’ rooms from our crazy vision. But if I say I need a table made, or I want a rug like this but that doesn’t cost $ 4,000, she knows where to go.
